EmployNZ is one of many providers in New Zealand that have partnered with Youth Guarantees to offer courses designed for Vocational Pathways.
This page is designed to explain the relationship between our NCEA Level 2 courses and the Vocational Pathways they award.

Service Industries
If you’re a people person, this could be the Pathway for you. This diverse
industry employs a third of Aotearoa New Zealand’s workforce.

Manufacturing and Technology
If you like making things work, this may be the Pathway for you. This Pathway includes the manufacturing, engineering, and logistics sectors.

Construction and Infrastructure
If you like working with others and learning by doing stuff yourself, then construction and infastructure might be perfect for you.

Creative Industries
If you’re the creative, artistic or sporty type, or have an interest in culture, recreation or digital technology, this could be the Pathway for you.

Social and Community Services
If you love people, this Pathway could be for you. Careers in this Pathway are all about supporting the community and caring for people in need.

Primary Industries
Jobs in the food and fibre sector involve hands on work growing and harvesting plants, crops and animals that help feed us and the world.
We do not currently offer any courses in this Pathway.

Manufacturing and Technology Vocational Pathway
This pathway offers a huge variety of roles to match different skills and interests. You could be part of a team building products, operating machinery, maintaining equipment, or developing new technology. Work can take place in all sorts of environments – from factories, warehouses, and workshops to offices, farms, construction sites, and even on the water.

Construction and Infrastructure

Construction and Infrastructure Vocational Pathway
This sector offers hands-on careers where most of the work happens on-site. Roles often involve travelling between different locations, using a wide variety of tools and machinery, and working in both indoor and outdoor settings. You’ll collaborate with other tradespeople, contractors, and clients to ensure projects run smoothly, with a strong focus on accuracy, safety, and quality.

Creative Industries

Creative Industries Vocational Pathway
This pathway is full of creative and technology-driven careers. You could be producing videos, designing eye-catching graphics, recording and mixing music, creating animations, or developing engaging podcasts, using the latest software and equipment to bring your ideas to life. Your workplaces can be as varied and dynamic as the job itself, sometimes working from home, sometimes in an office or studio, and sometimes out and about on-site. You’ll work alongside clients, as well as other like-minded creatives, all working together to tell stories and communicate ideas using the creative process.

Social and Community Services
If you love people, this Pathway could be for you. Careers in this Pathway are all about supporting the community and caring for people in need.
Social and Community Services Vocational Pathway
Jobs in this pathway are exciting, rewarding, and make a real difference. You could be teaching a class, supporting students one-on-one, running activities, or providing specialist help. You might also work in social services, supporting individuals and families, connecting them with resources, and helping them overcome challenges. Work is varied and dynamic, with opportunities to use creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills. You’ll be part of a dedicated team helping people of all ages and backgrounds thrive.
