This programme has a practical, hands-on focus which enables learners to demonstrate their transferable knowledge, skills and aptitudes in one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries and is targeted at those who have already achieved the qualification New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (Level 5) and/or people who have equivalent qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience and are working towards a career in the IT industry as System Administrators.
Teaching and learning are focussed on real-life scenarios that System Administrators would encounter in the workplace. You will have access to your own Azure Cloud account to build and deploy functional servers, clients, and services.
You will also learn to operate within the applicable professional standards and codes of ethics, independently and/or as part of a team developing the essential communication, reporting and project management skills you will need to become a sucessful Sys Admin in today’s IT sector.
Your Pathway:
This qualification provides a pathway to further specialisation through industry specific training such as in IT Security or other Diploma or Graduate level qualifications. Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to gain employment in entry level roles such as IT technician, help desk, tier 1 and 2 desktop support, systems administration, or in application support. Graduates will also have the background to progress into more advanced roles such as senior system administrator or application support analyst roles.

2025 Intake Dates –
- Term 1 – 28 January | Term 2 – 21 April
- Term 3 – 14 July | Term 4 – 6 October
- Class and Labs – 8:30pm – 12:30pm Monday to Friday
- Self Directed Learning – 10 hours per week
- 40 weeks duration
- Graduates will receive the New Zealand Diploma in IT Infrastructure – Systems Administration (Level 6) (120 Credits)
Entry Prerequisites:
- You must bring your own laptop. Specifications will be provided at enrollment.
- Must be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrolment. All applicants are recommended to hold New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (Level 5) or have equivalent knowledge,skills and experience.

Who is this course for?
The IT Diploma is eligible for the governments Fees Free policy, so they pay your fees, if this will be your first year of tertiary study. For more information see the TEC, Fees free website.
If you are not eligble for Fees Free, the course costs $9,581.00 (TBC). We are Studylink approved and can help you apply.
Once eligibility has been established, students are selected by interview. Selection is based on a number of things including age, how suitable the course is for the student’s goals, attitude to learning, ability to function in an adult environment and fit in with existing groups, as well as committing to attending, course achievement and a pathway to employment or further education.
