What will I learn about?

  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot computers – essential skills for any IT support role.
  • Understand how computer networks work, and learn to set up and manage basic systems.
  • Install software, apply updates, and solve problems across different devices and platforms.
  • Explore basic coding and automation tools to understand how systems and software run.
  • Learn how data is stored, managed, and accessed – and why it’s critical for business.
  • Discover how business tools are designed to be functional and user-friendly.
  • Set up and secure smaller networks used in home or small business environments.
  • Get experience working with large-scale, organisation-level IT infrastructure.

What are the entry prerequisites?

  • You’ll need to bring your own laptop – specifications will be provided at enrolment.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of enrolment.
  • Recommended prior qualifications or equivalent experience include:
    • NCEA Level 2 or 3, ideally with computing credits or experience using computers
    • New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Intermediate User) – Level 3
    • New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Advanced User) – Level 4
    • New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials – Level 4

  • Class & Lab Sessions: Monday to Friday, 1:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Self-Directed Learning: Approximately 10 hours per week
  • Duration: 40 weeks
  • Qualification Awarded: New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology (Level 5) (120 Credits, Version 2)
