The Diploma in IT Technical Support (Level 5) teaches hands-on, practical skills across a wide range of IT areas – including networking, cybersecurity, programming, hardware, and more. Delivered face-to-face at our Tauranga CBD campus, this course features small class sizes, one-on-one tutor support, and a learning environment tailored to your goals. With tutors who know your name and care about your future, you’ll get the support you need, when you need it. 

We work closely with local employers, and most of our graduates secure roles like IT support technician, help desk assistant, or network support specialist soon after finishing. You’ll also be well-prepared to move on to further IT training or industry certifications.

Want to go further? Many students continue into our Level 6 Diploma in Systems Administration, where you’ll build on your foundation and train for more advanced roles like System Administrator – all with the same supportive, practical approach that helps you grow with confidence. 

Entry Prerequisites:

  • You’ll need to bring your own laptop – specifications will be provided at enrolment.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of enrolment.
  • Recommended prior qualifications or equivalent experience include:
      • NCEA Level 2 or 3, ideally with computing credits or experience using computers
      • New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Intermediate User) – Level 3
      • New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Advanced User) – Level 4
      • New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials – Level 4

Course Details:

  • Class & Lab Sessions: Monday to Friday, 1:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Self-Directed Learning: Approximately 10 hours per week
  • Duration: 40 weeks
  • Qualification Awarded: New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology (Level 5) (120 Credits, Version 2)

Fees Free

The Government has announced that Fees Free for the first year of study or training will finish at the end of 2024. A final-year Fees Free policy will replace it, starting from 1 January 2025.

If you are a first-time tertiary learner in 2025, you may be able to get Fees Free for your final year of study or training. If you are eligible, you will need to apply for your entitlement through IRD from 2026 onwards.
