The NZ government has introduced a new fund to support the recovery period for New Zealand.

In our case, the fund will provide for all domestic students who are looking to enrol on approved tertiary programmes that will contribute to meeting the demand for industry related skills over the next few years.

The Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) fund removes all costs for eligible programmes in targeted areas for learners, through to December 2022.

The fund is targeted towards particular industry skill needs where demand from employers for these skills will continue to be strong, or is expected to grow, during New Zealand’s recovery period from the impacts of COVID-19.

We can confirm that EmployNZ has the following programmes that are eligible for TTAF in 2021 so there will be no enrolment or tuition cost (No Fees) for students on the following programmes at EmployNZ:

New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology – Technical Support – Level 5

New Zealand Diploma in Systems Administration – Level 6

Find out more about our Diplomas in IT.

Q: “What about the Fee-Free Scheme?”

The Fees Free scheme will still apply to those who have completed a TTAF funded programme(s)

That means that enrolling on these programmes will not count towards your first year of tertiary studies so you will be able to apply for Fees Free enrolment should you chose to continue your tertiary studies

For more information see the Tertairy Education Commission website

Q: “What about international students?”

Normal fees will continue to apply for international students interested in our IT diploma programmes

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Following the Government’s announcement of a shift to Alert Level 2, we are pleased to be preparing for a safe new normal. Our team will be returning to our premises in the coming days and if you are an existing member of the EmployNZ whānau, you can expect contact from us!

EmployNZ staff will return to our sites on Monday 18 May. If you are planning to come in and see us, we kindly ask that you ring ahead and book an appointment with one of our team. This will help us safely manage the number of people in the building, and we may even be able to help over the phone, saving you the trip.

Our education and pre employment training delivery will commence from Wednesday 20 May. Programmes will have staggered start dates and times to maximise safety at this time. Your tutor will provide you with more detailed information about your programme when they get in touch with you.

Youth Service can continue to support you by phone, online, or by appointment where necessary.

Each person entering our premises will need to follow these public health guidelines:

Sign in and out, for contact tracing purposes

Keep physical distancing of one metre

Practice great hygiene e.g. regular hand washing; cough and sneeze etiquette

Also if you are unwell, please stay at home. We’re adapting our mahi and will share with you how we will all be able to actively protect the health of the people in our workplace. In situations where it is easier and safer to work with you online or over the phone, we can continue to do so.

Finally, we send our warmest wishes to you. These are unusual times and many people may be feeling anxious, worried, itching to get back to normal, or dreading it! Your wellbeing is a priority now more than ever and it’s important to reach out if your feelings are overwhelming you.

If you have any questions, concerns, or are in need of support please make contact with your tutor or coach, we’d love to hear from you. You can call us on 0800 002 159, submit an enquiry through our website, or chat with us on our Facebook page.

As announced, Alert 3 will commences on the 28th of April and will last for at least 2 weeks with a further announcement on the 11th of May regarding when we may move from Alert Level 3.

For the remainder of Alert Level 4 and for all of Alert Level 3, EmployNZ sites will remain closed to the public as outlined by the government and we will continue to offer our programmes and services remotely.

As you will be aware we are currently on Term Break and we will commence our Term 2 on the 28th of April.

Term 2 will start with Tutors sending out a quick survey to update our information about the devices, access to the internet you have and to get some feedback on how you have found the experience over the last few weeks of last term.

Youth Service, Employment Placement, Training for Work and Whare Reintegration services will continue to operate remotely as they have through Level 4, and our coaches, tutors and mentors will remain available to you online or over the phone as we move to Level 3. Our social services team are working hard to digitise their resources and stay connected with other providers to ensure you have access to all community supports available through this time.

As you know, EmployNZ offers all of our programmes and services in a face to face environment at our delivery sites so this is a huge change for all of us, but a change which is generating a lot of great ideas for how we can deliver our programmes and services.

EmployNZ would like to thank our staff for the huge amount of work they have done to prepare for the activities that they have planned to continue your programmes and support online. We would also like to say thank you to all of our students for the massive efforts that you have all put into participating in new technologies, working through your hard copy learning packs and continuing your learning online, and also to our clients for keeping in contact with our team, adapting quickly to our new methods of processing, and your patience as we work through new ways of doing things ourselves. We have a lot more activity planned for the coming weeks including getting more hard copy learning packs out once we can access our sites and getting more activities and resources online for everyone during the coming weeks.

Stay safe, stay in your bubble, look out for everyone you are with and reduce the risk of spreading the virus by staying at home wherever possible.
